Turn down a drink as a woman and suddenly everyone becomes a detective. 
"Are you pregnant?/on medication?/driving?"
It's like people can't compute that you might just not want alcohol. There has to be a "valid" reason that makes sense to them 😅
I used to hate this so much. It made me feel like I needed a medical excuse to justify not drinking poison. Like choosing sobriety wasn't reason enough.
Now I realize this question says everything about how normalized drinking is and nothing about whether my choice is valid. I don't need to be pregnant to say no to alcohol! 
The best responses are the ones that redirect without over-explaining. You don't owe anyone your medical history or your sobriety story.

This is the shame spiral, and it's more dangerous than the actual drinking. The drink was a moment, the shame spiral can last forever if you let it🌀
Your sobriety isn't a perfect streak that gets erased by one mistake. It's a practice, and practices include imperfection. Just like how you don't throw away your entire fitness routine because you missed one workout.

I used to think there were only two options when I was overwhelmed - suffer through it or numb it with wine. Turns out there's a THIRD option that actually works better than both. 
Your body has a built-in calm-down system, you just need to know how to activate it. This is called ✨nervous system regulation✨, and it's a game changer. 
When you use alcohol to calm down, the stress is still there underneath - it just comes back stronger later 🍷 
But when you learn to regulate your nervous system, you actually process and release the stress instead of just masking it. Your body learns it's safe to relax without needing anything external. The overwhelm becomes manageable because you have real tools, not just temporary numbing. 
I wish someone had told me earlier that feeling overwhelmed just means your nervous system needs some help learning how to downshift.
